Solution

The appliance is fitted with a plate holding assembly which can be slid out of the cabinet.

By disconnecting some of the 24 springs will lower the holding capacity therefore will lower a smaller quantity of plates.

However more springs will increase the resistance and the appliance will now need more plates in order to lower the mechanism.
